Winston Whyte was originally a member of the Grenada United Labour Party [GULP]. He resigned after being overlooked by Eric Gairy for a candidate position and joined the United People’s Party [UPP] and became its political leader.
Whyte joined with the GNP and NJM to form the People’s Alliance in the 1976 Grenada general elections winning a seat.
Whyte was imprisoned by the NJM in October 1979 six (6) months after the start of the Grenada Revolution. He was accused of plotting a revolt against the PRG and remained at Richmond Hill Prison until he broke out when the US invaded Grenada in October 1983.
