Maurice Bishop

A Grenadian socialist politician who seized power in a coup in 1979 and served as Prime Minister of Grenada until he was executed in 1983

Maurice Rupert Bishop was the leader of the NJM and Prime Minister of Grenada during the Grenada Revolution.

Bishop served as Prime Minister from March 15, 1979 until he was executed on October 19, 1983 (known as Bloody Wednesday) along with seven of his closest supporters at Fort Rupert in Grenada.
