Phyllis Coard was the wife of Bernard Coard and was a member of the NJM. Born in Jamaica, she served as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for the People's Revolutionary Government.
As one of the Grenada 17, Phyllis Coard was convicted in 1983 for her role in the murder of Grenada prime minister Maurice Bishop. She was released in 2000 on compassionate grounds allowing her to receive medical treatment in the US for cancer.
Phyllis Coard died in 2020.

Phyllis Coard was an heir to the Tia Maria Jamaican coffee liqueur.
