Following the 1983 execution-style murders of Grenada’s Prime Minister Maurice Bishop and several members of his cabinet on Bloody Wednesday, 17 people identified as the Grenada 17 were charged for their part in the murders.
The Grenada 17 includes 14 members of Grenada’s former government and three (3) soldiers:
- Hudson Austin – Head of the PRAF
- Dave Bartholomew – (Central Committee member)
- Callistus Bernard – soldier in charge of the firing squad at Fort Rupert; admitted shooting Bishop
- Bernard Coard – member of the NJM; Bishop’s friend; became Deputy Prime Minister
- Phyllis Coard (Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs)
- Leon Cornwall – (Central Committee member)
- Liam James (Central Committee member)
- Vincent Joseph
- Ewart Layne – dispatched army forces to Fort Rupert
- Colville McBarnette (Central Committee member)
- Andy Mitchell
- Cecil Prime – present at Fort Rupert at the time of the executions
- Lester Redhead – present at Fort Rupert at the time of the executions
- Cosmos Richardson – a PRD soldier who was part of the execution squad at Fort Rupert
- Selwyn Strachan – NJM leader and Central Committee member
- Christopher Stroude – present at Fort Rupert at the time of the executions
- John Ventour – Trade unionist and member of the Central Committee member
