Selwyn Strachan was an early and active member of both the J.E.W.E.L. and MAP organizations in Grenada. Later he became a key member of the New Jewel Movement (NJM).
Strachan was imprisoned in 1983 for his role in the murder of Grenada Prime Minister Maurice Bishop and several of Bishop's supporters. He was released from prison in 2009.
