Uriah “Buzz” Butler was a Grenadian who migrated to Trinidad in the 1930s and rose to become a trade unionist.
In 1937, Butler led a huge uprising of oil field workers in Trinidad demanding higher wages, safer working conditions and an end to racism. Within hours, workers all over Trinidad joined the oil field workers in the strike.
