Michael Als was a politician and activist from Trinidad. Als was the founder of the Banking, Insurance and General Workers Union (BIGWU) . He also served as chair of the People's Popular Movement.
Als was a close friend of Cheddi Jagan, Trevor Munroe and Bernard Coard.
During the final days of the Grenada Revolution, Michael Als was one of a handful of non-Grenadians allowed to mediate between the NJM factions. Als met with Maurice Bishop on October 18, 1983, the day before Bishop was killed.
Michael Als died in December 2013.
